Knowledge Sharing Challenges in the Everyday Lives of Globally Distributed Software Developers

 Dr Muhammad Ali Babar (University of Adelaide)

 

 

Dr. M. Ali Babar is a Professor of Software Engineering (Chair) at the School of Computer Science, the University of Adelaide, Australia. He also holds an Associate Professorship at IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Prior to this, he was a Reader in Software Engineering at Lancaster University UK. Previously, he worked as a researcher and project leaders in different research centres in Ireland and Australia. He has authored/co-authored more than 140 peer-reviewed research papers in journals, conferences, and workshops. He has co-edited a book, software architecture knowledge management: theory and practice. Prof. Ali Babar has been a guest editor of several special issues/sections of IEEE Software, JSS, ESEJ, SoSyM, IST, and REJ. Apart from being on the program committees of several international conferences such as WICSA/ECSA, ESEM, SPLC, ICGSE, and ICSSP for several years, Prof. Ali Babar was the founding general chair of Nordic-Baltic Symposium on Cloud Computing and Internet Technologies (NordiCloud) 2012.

 

Research overview

My research is focused on human-centric software engineering, an area at the intersection of computing, behavioral, and cognitive sciences. My research is stimulated by the need to improve the software engineering process to produce high quality software intensive systems and services that can help organizations to achieve their business and social goals. The main focus of my research is to develop and/or rigorously evaluate approaches and tools for supporting the design, analysis, and evolution of complex and dependable software intensive system and services that meet both the functional and non-functional requirements as derived from the quality goals specified by the stakeholders. Most of my research efforts have been focused on early lifecycle issues when designing and developing software intensive systems and services using different software development paradigms such as Global Software Engineering (GSE), Open Source Software (OSS), and Agile methods. Hence, one of the key objectives of my research and development activities is to help build human- as well as technological-based competencies in designing, analyzing, and evolving high quality software architectures of systems and services systematically and predictably according to the requirements of different software development paradigms (i.e., GSE, OSS, Agile).

Qualidade Através da Transparência: Uma Visão de Engenharia de Requisitos

Mini-Currículo: Membro do Working Group 2.9 (Software Requirements Engineering) da IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) é um dos fundadores da área de Engenharia de Requisitos. Tem participação ativa nessa área; quer como membro do corpo editorial do Requirements Engineering Journal da Springer, quer como membro, desde de 1993, do comitê de programa da conferência internacional de requisitos (RE). Além da Engenharia de Requisitos, tem trabalhado em outras áreas, principalmente em reuso de software; tendo sido o General Chair da ICSR e da RE-13. Cientista do Nosso Estado (1999, 2007 e 2009), professor visitante da Universidade de São Paulo (ICMC), professor visitante da Universität Kaiserslautern, cientista visitante do Fraunhofer IESE, professor convidado da ECI da Universidad de Buenos Aires, visiting scholar na University of Toronto e cientista visitante do Projeto Lucretius - Università degli Studi di Trento. É membro da Association for Computing Machinery e da IEEE Computer Society. Sócio fundador da Sociedade Brasileira de Computação (SBC) , participou de seu conselho entre 1996 e 2000. Tem participado de alguns seminários Dagstuhl. É Co-editor do livro Perspectives on Software Requirements e co-fundador da série WER (Workshop em Engenharia de Requisitos) e da série FEES (Fórum de Educação em Engenharia de Software). Autor do livro:" Livro Vivo: Engenharia de Requisitos". Através de palestras ou consultoria tem ajudado diversas organizações na adoção de novas tecnologias.
